LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball will get its second look at UL-Lafayette this season when the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond for a midweek game Wednesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, the first of six McNeese softball ESPN+ productions this season.
Monday night, McNeese added two five-inning run-rule victories over Arkansas Pine-Bluff to improve to 21-14 overall.
Jil Poullard continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .377 batting average, a .727 slugging percentage, 19 walks, eight doubles, five home runs, and 28 RBI. Toni Perrin and Reese Reyna are tied for a team high of 13 stolen bases. Talley leads the team with 30 runs scored and is second on the team with a .357 batting average and a .536 slugging percentage. Alayis Seneca leads the team with 31 hits and is second with 17 RBIs and 15 walks.
Shaelyn Sanders (6-0) leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 1.54 ERA and one save during her 44.0 innings of action. With a 3.01 ERA and 84.0 innings of action in the circle, Ashley Vallejo (8-6) leads the Cowgirls with 67 strikeouts.
In the last five out of six matchups the Ragin' Cajuns (29-9) have claimed victory over the Cowgirls including a 5-3 win on March 9. In 2019, UL-Lafayette was ranked No. 9, but after 11 innings McNeese left Lafayette with a 5-4 win.
"The first matchup against UL-Lafayette we kicked the ball around and gave up some free passes. When you play quality teams you cannot give them an at bat," said head coach James Landreneau. "They [UL-Lafayette] gave up three or four errors that game and still managed to stay in the game. We have to attack the strike zone, play clean defense, and have mature at bats to give ourselves a chance to win the game."
The Ragin' Cajuns went two for three at Texas State this past weekend.
Kayla Falterman leads ULL with a .459 batting average. Karly Heath leads with a .750 slugging percentage and is tied for the second most home runs (5) with two other players this season. Stormy Kotzelick leads the team with five triples, 25 RBI and 68 total bases.
Sam Landry has seen the most action in the circle with 14 game starts and 59.0 innings pitched earning 87 strikeouts contributing to a 2.25 ERA.
