LAKE CHARLES – McNeese outfielder
Julian Gonzales has been a CoSIDA Academic All-American, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The senior from Sulphur, who earned third team honors and becomes just the seventh Cowboy in school history to earn the award, compiled a 3.95 GPA while majoring in biology pre-med and minors in chemistry and psychology. He was listed to the All-America ballot after garnering Academic All-District First Team honors back in May.
On the field in the 2022 season, Gonzales started in all 57 games and hit .280 with nine home runs and 44 RBIs, which tied him for first on the team as he helped lead the Cowboys to the Southland Conference regular season championship for the first time since 2017.
He ranked second on the squad with 16 doubles, 52 runs scored and three triples while his 22 stolen bases ranked him third on the team.
Gonzales is the only player from the Southland Conference to be voted as an Academic All-American.
