2023 SLC Preseason SB Team

SB: Cowgirls Land League High Seven On SLC Preseason Team

FRISCO, Texas—McNeese softball, the preseason Southland Conference favorite, placed a league high seven players on the 2023 preseason team, the league announced Thursday.
 
Of the seven Cowgirls named to the team, six earned first team honors.  Earning first team honors is Ashley Vallejo, the 2022 SLC "Pitcher of the Year", first baseman Crislyne Moreno, second baseman Caleigh Cross, third baseman Jil Poullard, outfielder Alayis Seneca, and utility Kaylee Lopez.  Designated player Chloe Gomez was named to the second team.
 
Vallejo, the native of New Waverly, Texas is coming off an outstanding sophomore season where she posted an 18-8 overall record with a 2.32 era.  In conference play, Vallejo was undefeated at 9-0 with seven complete games, 45 strikeouts and a 0.26 ERA. 
 
Moreno hails from Converse, Texas and had a break-out 2022 season.  Moreno ended her rookie season with a .355 batting average, .511 slugging percent, 40 RBI, 11 doubles and three homeruns and was the SLC Tournament MVP.
 
Cross is a senior from Forney, Texas who batted .241 with 13 hits, two doubles, six RBI and was named first team All-SLC last season.
 
Poullard is a local product from Moss Bluff, La. who led the Cowgirls in almost every statistical category last season as a sophomore.  Poullard led the team with a .367 batting average, .640 slugging percent, 45 RBI, four triples, seven home runs and 37 walks.  She was second on the team with 55 hits and 12 doubles and was second on the team with 44 runs scored and third with 19 stolen bases.
 
Seneca is from The Woodlands, Texas who batted .297 last season with 52 hits, 44 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, six doubles and 21 RBI.  Seneca, an outfielder ended the 2022 season with a .942 fielding percent.
 
Lopez, the native of Indian Bayou, La., batted .314 last season with 37 hits, 10 doubles, one home run, 31 RBI and 18 walks.
 
Gomez is from Spring, Texas who produced a .279 batting average with 39 hits, 21 RBI, five doubles, two home runs, 13 stolen bases, and scored 22 runs.
