2023 Schedule

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball, the defending Southland Conference regular season and tournament champions will begin practicing for the upcoming 2023 season on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.
 
The Cowgirls will practice at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
 
McNeese is coming off 40-21 overall record and its deepest run in the NCAA Tournament last season by advancing to the Regional Tournament title game that included two wins over Notre Dame.  The Cowgirls fell to Northwestern in the title game, a team that advanced to the Women's College World Series.
 
Under the direction of seventh year head coach James Landreneau, the Cowgirls return 11 letterwinners and one redshirt freshman. 
 
The Cowgirls return their top three pitchers in Ashley Vallejo, the 2022 SLC Pitcher of the Year, Whitney Tate the 2021 SLC Tournament MVP, along with Shaelyn Sanders who posted a 7-2 record last season and had the second lowest ERA on the team at 2.79.
 
Vallejo is coming off an 18-8 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record with eight shutouts, and a team low 2.32 ERA.
 
Tate posted a 13-10 record with a 3.74 ERA despite missing the entire 2021 fall workouts.
 
Also returning is Crislyne Moreno, the 2022 SLC Tournament MVP and all-conference performers in Jil Poullard, Caleigh Cross, Kaylee Lopez, and Alayis Seneca along with Reese Reyna, Chloe Gomez, Erin Ardoin, and redshirt freshman Kennedy Reynolds.   
 
McNeese will open its season Feb. 10-12 in its own Cowgirl Classic, one of two tournaments hosted by the Cowgirls this season.
