LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Cowboys cross country runners Omer El-Fadl and Gilbert Kimutai have been named to the 2023 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Men's College Cross Country team the LSWA announced on Monday.
 
The 7-member men's team was recognized based off top times in 8-kilometer races submitted to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
 
El-Fadl, a junior from Doha, Qatar, posted the fourth-fastest 8k among all men's state runners on the season when he clocked a 23:40.9 for a 14^th place finish at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invite on October 27. In four meets on the season, El-Fadl finished first in two – the Lamar Early Bird Opener 6k and the McNeese Cowboy Stampede 4-miler.
 
He placed 15^th at the Southland Conference XC Championships and wasn't able to finish at the NCAA South Central Region XC meet.
 
Kimutai, a 2023 All-Southland Conference XC performer, had the 7^th-best time in the state when he clocked a 24:08.3 at the Arturo Barrios Invite.
 
A junior from Eldoret, Kenya, Kimutai placed seventh at the SLC championships to earn All-Conference honors. He also placed second at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede and 65^th at the NCAA South Central Region meet.
 
McNeese and Tulane were the only schools represented on the men's team as Tulane placed five runners on the squad.
