LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Cowboys cross country runners
Omer El-Fadl and
Gilbert Kimutai have been named to the 2023 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Men's College Cross Country team the LSWA announced on Monday.
The 7-member men's team was recognized based off top times in 8-kilometer races submitted to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
El-Fadl, a junior from Doha, Qatar, posted the fourth-fastest 8k among all men's state runners on the season when he clocked a 23:40.9 for a 14
th place finish at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invite on October 27. In four meets on the season, El-Fadl finished first in two – the Lamar Early Bird Opener 6k and the McNeese Cowboy Stampede 4-miler.
He placed 15
th at the Southland Conference XC Championships and wasn't able to finish at the NCAA South Central Region XC meet.
Kimutai, a 2023 All-Southland Conference XC performer, had the 7
th-best time in the state when he clocked a 24:08.3 at the Arturo Barrios Invite.
A junior from Eldoret, Kenya, Kimutai placed seventh at the SLC championships to earn All-Conference honors. He also placed second at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede and 65
th at the NCAA South Central Region meet.
McNeese and Tulane were the only schools represented on the men's team as Tulane placed five runners on the squad.
