Rogers Ks 11 in 10-4 win over UTA

Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas – McNeese starting pitcher Grant Rogers, the reigning Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, made a push for a repeat honor in Friday night's 10-4 win over UT Arlington.
 
Rogers (2-0) threw seven innings and allowed just two runs and three hits while striking out a season-high 11 batters. He retired the final 10 batters he faced.
 
UTA relief pitcher Thomas Kuykendall, the second of four pitchers on the night, took the loss and fell to 0-1 after he allowed six runs, three earned, on three hits, walked two and struck out three in one inning of work.
 
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Cowboys as they improve to 2-3 on the young season. UT Arlington fell to 1-5. The two teams will continue the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Scoring:
• McNeese led 1-0 in the first when LF Cooper Hext led off with a single then eventually scored on an error.
• UTA took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd off an RBI double by DH Ryan Black then an RBI groundout by SS Cason Gregory.
• The Cowboys tied things up 2-2 in the fourth when C Andruw Gonzales drew a one-out walk then scored on a Braden Duhon triple.
• In the seventh, the Cowboys loaded the bases with two outs off of back-to-back singles by 3B Taylor Darden and Hext, then a walk by Harden. Josh Leslie then reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, and with Harden at third and Leslie on first, the two stole their bags and Harden scored when an attempt to throw out Leslie at second base was unsuccessful.
• McNeese opened the game up with a 5-run eighth inning. Tré Obregon III led things off with a single and Gonzales followed with walk. Duhon earned a sac by moving the runners up but he reached on a fielder's choice on an unsuccessful attempt for the force out at third. Harden walked to score a run and Leslie hit a 2-run single as a third run scored on a fielding error.
• UTA added two runs in the bottom of the ninth to close the margin to six runs.
 
Notebook:
• McNeese had seven hits in the game with the top three batters in the order collecting four.
• The Cowboys got their first triples of the season – Payton Harden in the third inning and Braden Duhon in the fourth.
• Harden added to his career school record hits and runs scored totals with one hit and one run on the night, increasing his totals to 257 hits and 166 runs.
• Harden has reached safely in all five games this season.
• With two hits on the night, Hext now has four hits in the last two games.
• 2B Brad Burckel saw his school-record 25-game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for-5.
• UTA scattered five hits and was held to three hits until the ninth when it got a couple of singles.
