LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis improved to 6-1 on the year with a 4-2 win over Louisiana-Monroe here Friday.
"I'm really proud of our girls today," said head coach
Gabby Moore. "We couldn't grab the momentum in double at the beginning. I think we were a little too relaxed and by the time we started to pick up our momentum we fell short. We knew moving forward we had to be aggressive because UL-Monroe has always been a very energetic, tough opponent and the girls did really well stepping up in singles. They were determined to have great energy today and we are really happy to get this win."
ULM (2-8) took the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point with wins at the top two courts.
McNeese opened singles play strong with a straight set win by
Ariane Monlleo Sanchis over Tamara Bachmann on Court 5 to even the match at one point apiece.
Maria Wang Martinez put the Cowgirls up 2-1 with her straight set win over Mariam Hatem on Court 6.
The Warhawks tied the match at two all with an Alessandra Anghel straight set win over Emma Lou-Pommiers on Court 1.
Heta Nuutinen's straight set win over Alice Klinteby on Court 2 gave McNeese the lead once again at 3-2 before
Tiana Fox clinched the victory with her three-set win over Giovanna Pereira on Court 3.
McNeese will travel to Clinton, Mississippi on Monday for a 1 p.m. match at Mississippi College. The Cowgirls will return home on Thursday, March 3 to host Dillard in a 3 p.m. match.
