LAKE CHARLES--  McNeese softball (11-5) will travel to Austin, Texas this weekend to take part in the Longhorn Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Cowgirls will open tournament play Friday at 9 a.m. against Princeton then will face RV/24 UL-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
 
Saturday's schedule has the Cowgirls taking on Tennessee State at 9:30 a.m. and No. 9/11 Texas at 12 p.m. on Longhorn Network.
 
Chloe Gomez leads the team with a .370 batting average, 17 hits, and is tied for a team high three doubles.
 
Whitney Tate (4-0) leads the staff with a 1.86 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and 41.1 innings.
 
Princeton (2-3) picked up its first two wins of the season but has since lost its last three games. UL-Lafayette (10-6) is coming off an eight-inning home win over Ole Miss on Monday.
 
Tennessee State (8-6) heads into the weekend on a three-game losing streak with losses to Western Carolina, Northern Iowa, and Georgia State last weekend at the Georgia State Panther Invitational.
 
Texas (12-2-1) has won its last four games and is coming off a 4-2 win over North Texas on Wednesday.  Saturday's game against the Longhorns will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
