SB: Cowgirls Host A&M-Commerce In Home Opening SLC Series

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball, winners of six of their last eight games and five of their last six games returns home this weekend to host Texas A&M-Commerce in the Cowgirls' SLC home opening series.  The series will begin with a single game Friday at 6 p.m. and will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
 
McNeese (19-10, 3-0 SLC) opened conference play last weekend with a sweep over Incarnate Word that saw the Cowgirls outscore the Cardinals 24-1 in the series with two shutouts. The Cowgirls are coming off a 6-2 road loss at No. 10/15 LSU on Tuesday.
 
McNeese continues to lead the nation in double plays per game.  The Cowgirls enter the weekend having turned 21 this season.  The Cowgirls are also 14th in the nation in stolen bases with 70.
 
Six Cowgirls enter the game hitting over .300 with senior outfielder Alayis Seneca leading the team with a .342 average. Chloe Gomez (.333), Rylie Bouvier (.319), Mariana Torres (.313), Reese Reyna (.311), and Erin Ardoin (.302).  Seneca and Gomez both lead the team with 25 hits apiece.
 
In the circle, Whitney Tate is 9-2 with a 1.70 ERA with four shutouts, 43 strikeouts in 74.1 innings.  Freshman Lindsay Davis is 3-1 on the year with a 3.13 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.  Ashley Vallejo is 5-7 with a 3.34 ERA and a team high 47 strikeouts in 58.2 innings while Shaelyn Sanders is 2-0 with a 1.68 ERA in 16.2 innings with 11 strikeouts.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce (5-21, 1-2 SLC) opened SLC play last weekend at home against Nicholls where they picked up the opening game 5-4 win in eight innings.  The Lions will be looking for their first road win of the season (0-10).
 
A&M-Commerce is led by Kaydee Bennett and Diamond Sefe who enter the weekend with a .323 average.  The Lions have used five pitchers this season.  Julia Sanchez leads the staff in wins (3-6), ERA (5.85), innings pitched (61.0), and strikeouts (41).
