SB: Cowgirls Travel To Sam Houston For Midweek Contest

 LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball, winners of eight of its last nine games will step out of Southland Conference play Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. midweek game at Sam Houston.
 
McNeese (22-10) is coming off its second Southland Conference series sweep over Texas A&M-Commerce last weekend where the Cowgirls picked up three shutout wins including two run-rule wins over the Lions.
 
McNeese continues to lead the nation in double plays per game, having turned 21 this season.  The Cowgirls also rank seventh in nation in triples with 14, and ninth in stolen bases with 82.
 
Alayis Seneca is one of five Cowgirls batting over .300, leading the team with a .367 average, 29 hits and is tied for a team high 16 runs scored.  Mariana Torres leads the team with a .544 slugging percent, 24 RBI, eight doubles, and two home runs.  Chloe Gomez is batting .354 with 28 hits, seven doubles, 12 RBI, and 15 runs scored.
 
In the circle, Whitney Tate is 10-2 with a 1.61 ERA with four shutouts, 47 strikeouts in 78.1 innings.  Freshman Lindsay Davis is 3-1 on the year with a 3.03 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 32.1 innings.  Ashley Vallejo is 6-7 with a 3.08 ERA and a team high 57 strikeouts in 63.2 innings while Shaelyn Sanders is 3-0 with a 1.18 ERA in 23.2 innings with 21 strikeouts.
 
Sam Houston (13-21) is coming off a home series sweep over Utah Valley with two wins being run-rule wins.  The Bearkats who have played a challenging schedule, have wins over Texas A&M, UTSA, UT-Arlington, south Dakota and Southland Conference members Northwestern State, Houston Christian, and Lamar.
 
Sam Houston is led at the plate by Jordan Peno's .323 batting average while Brailey Wasik and Brodie Quinlan have a team high five home runs.  Quinlan also leads the team with 19 RBI.  The Bearkats have used five pitchers this season.  Daryn Grams and Emma Guindon lead the staff with four wins apiece.  Grams has a 2.59 ERA and Guindon has a 3.76 ERA.
