FRISCO, Texas—Following two one-hit shutouts over Northwestern State to clinch the series, McNeese's junior
Ashley Vallejo has been named this week's Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. It's the second consecutive week McNeese earns Pitcher of the Week honors and the first POW honor for Vallejo this season.
The native of New Waverly, Texas appeared in three games last week and produced a 2-0 record including two one-hit shutouts against the Lady Demons along with a 0.53 ERA. Vallejo allowed only three hits in 13.1 innings of work last week, with her other hit coming against UL-Lafayette in a midweek contest.
In the opening game of the NW State series, Vallejo struck out a career high 14 batters and struck out 10 of the first 12 batters she faced. She followed that outing with another on-hitter in the rubber game of the series to help the Cowgirls clinch the series 2-1. In that game, Vallejo retired the first 13 batters she faced before allowing the next two runners to reach base on walks.
With the wins over NW State, Vallejo is 5-0 in league play this season and 14-0 in league games dating back to last season, where she was a perfect 9-0.
