Grant Rogers, McNeese's record-breaking starting pitcher, has added a second All-American award to his resume after he was named to the 2023 NCBWA All-American Second Team, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America announced on Wednesday with its 23
rd annual first, second and third team revealing.
Rogers is the only player from the Southland Conference to be selected to either of the three teams and the second Cowboy in school history to earn All-America honors by the NCBWA (Ben Broussard, 1999 first team).
Already named a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American, Rogers is looking to become just the third player in McNeese Baseball history to earn "consensus" status with one more honor in either of the other two national outlets. He's on the ballot for ABCA/Rawlings All-America and is in the running for Baseball America's All-American team.
This past year, the two-time Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year and first team All-Conference selection posted a 12-1 record with a 1.82 ERA. His victory total set a new McNeese single-season record while leading the league and ranking second in the NCAA while is ERA ranked as the third-best in the nation. His wins also rank as the second-most in a season in Southland Conference history and the most since the 2012 season.
In addition, the junior from Groves, Texas and a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American selection, struck out 88 batters in 103.2 innings pitched and walked just 18. He started the season at 10-0 to become the first pitcher in school history to win 10 games without a loss, and threw four complete games with two shutouts and two combined shutouts.
Rogers became the first Cowboy to be named the league's pitcher of the year multiple times, seventh Cowboy selection overall, and only the fourth player in conference history to garner the award in back-to-back seasons.
There are 21 different conferences and 18 conference championship squads represented among the '23 honorees. The three All-America squads are also made up of 12 conference players or co-players of the year, 14 conference pitchers of the year and two conference relief pitchers of the year.
