Grant Rogers Consensus All-American

Rogers earns Consensus All-American status with ABCA honor

| By:
LAKE CHARLES –McNeese starting pitcher Grant Rogers has earned Consensus All-American status after being named to the All-America Second Team by the ABCA/Rawlings on Friday.

Rogers collects his third All-American postseason honor this season, qualifying him as a Consensus All-American, the second in McNeese Baseball history (Ben Broussard in 1999). He qualified for the honor after being selected onto the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region first team earlier this week.

Over the last two weeks, the Groves, Texas native has been named an All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA, garnering second team honors by both. Baseball America and D1Baseball have yet to announce its All-America teams.

Rogers and Lamar catcher Ryan Snell (third team) are the only players to represent the Southland Conference on either of the three teams.

"I am truly grateful and humbled by this," said Rogers. "None of this could have been accomplished without my teammates. Because of the offense, the defense, and the support of my coaches and teammates, this was made possible. I am thankful for the coaches and McNeese Baseball for the opportunity they have given me. God has truly blessed me."

Rogers has one more season of eligibility remaining and is expected to be selected in next month's MLB Draft.

"What Grant did this season was truly special and he will be remembered as one of the great pitchers in McNeese Baseball history," said Cowboys head coach Justin Hill.

This past year, the two-time Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year and first team All-Conference selection posted a 12-1 record with a 1.82 ERA. His victory total set a new McNeese single-season record while leading the league and ranking second in the NCAA while is ERA ranked as the third-best in the nation. His wins also rank as the second-most in a season in Southland Conference history and the most since the 2012 season.

In addition, the junior from Groves, Texas and a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American selection, struck out 88 batters in 103.2 innings pitched and walked just 18. He started the season at 10-0 to become the first pitcher in school history to win 10 games without a loss, and threw four complete games with two shutouts and two combined shutouts.

Rogers became the first Cowboy to be named the league's pitcher of the year multiple times, seventh Cowboy selection overall, and only the fourth player in conference history to garner the award in back-to-back seasons.

First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams are selected by the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University. The committee also includes Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth University), Brian Green (formerly at Washington State University), Dan Heefner (Dallas Baptist University), Jeff Mercer (Indiana University), Brian O'Connor (University of Virginia), Jim Penders (University of Connecticut), and Butch Thompson (Auburn University).

Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
