McNeese to host defending national champions LSU in fall exhibition November 5

| By:

LAKE CHARLES – The defending College Baseball World Series champion LSU Tigers will visit Joe Miller Ballpark on Nov. 5 for a fall scrimmage against the McNeese Cowboys.

The scrimmage will begin at noon. Details of the contest have not been announced in terms of number of innings to be played.

Tickets will be $5 and will go on sale on Monday, October 9. All seating will be general admission. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free but must obtain a ticket when the adult ticket is purchased. McNeese students will be admitted free with a valid student ID.

"It's not just a fall game. It's a fall game at home against the defending national champions and one of the most storied college baseball programs in history," said McNeese head coach Justin Hill, who is entering his 11thseason at the helm and a former LSU pitcher. "LSU has only been to Lake Charles one time since I've been here and twice since 2012. This might never happen again here, so I appreciate Coach Johnson bringing his club here to play."

The appearance in Lake Charles will be the first since they came in 2017 and Southwest Louisiana watched as McNeese took a 5-4 victory. The two teams are scheduled to play either 16 or 18 innings with a break in between.

The LSU Tigers claimed the national championship in 2023 in their 19th appearance in the College World Series, the program's seventh title all-time.

McNeese and LSU met during the 2023 campaign where the Cowboys fought valiantly, tying the tigers 3-3 in the top of the third inning before taking a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. Ultimately, the purple and gold edged out the blue and gold 7-4 at home.

Hill pitched for LSU under head coach Skip Bertman and was a two-year letterwinner and academic All-SEC performer in 2001. He was a part of the 2001 and 2002 NCAA Regional Championship teams.

"The game won't count in the standings or impact our RPI, but it will give us an opportunity to complete against elite college talent inside a really fun environment. I'm looking forward to all of the preparation that will go into this."
