BATON ROUGE – McNeese will compete in its final indoor track and field meet before the Feb. 25-26 Southland Conference Championships when select Cowboys and Cowgirls will take part in the LSU Twilight on Friday.
 
The Cowboys have several competitors entered that are ranked in the top 10 in the SLC in their respective events including Amire Ledet who is No. 2 in the long jump, Tyler Challis in the weight throw (No. 3), Abner Johnson in the shot put (#4) and sprinter Koen Beavers in the 60m dash (#6).
 
On the women's side, high jumper Sakari Famous will compete in her specialty where she's ranked No. 1 in the SLC, sixth in the NCAA South Central Region and 28^th nationally. Zur'Najah Poullard will compete and will carry a No. 6 conference and 41^st regional ranking into the meet.
 
The Cowgirls have five entered in the weight throw, four which are ranked in the top 10 in the league. Mariah Lee is No. 1 in the conference and 10^th in the region, Jaslyn Russell is No. 5 in the SLC and 40^th in the region, Madison Freeman is ranked No. 9 in the conference and Kinnady Hawkins is 10^th in the league. Also entered is Esmeralda Ruiz who is ranked 12^th in the Southland.
 
Russell will also throw the shot put with a No. 2 conference and 26^th regional ranking. Ashari Jones will also throw the shot where she's ranked sixth in the league and 41^st in the region.
 
On the track for the Cowgirls, Latavia Jack will look to improve on her No. 9 league ranking in the 60-meter dash while Nia Riley (No. 8) and Grace Sullivan (No. 10) hopes to improve on their 800m rankings.
