FRSICO Texas--  Senior pitcher Shaelyn Sanders has been named this week's Southland Conference "Pitcher of the Week", the league announced Monday afternoon.
 
The native of Splendora, Texas posed a 2-1 record last week with both wins coming in the Cowgirls' SLC opening series win over Nicholls.
 
Sanders opened the series with a 4-1 win where she tossed her first one-hitter of the series along with 10 strikeouts, tying her season high and two shy of tying her career high.  Sanders opened the game by hitting Nicholls' leadoff hitter then retired the next 12 batters she faced, retiring eight of the 12 by strikeouts.
 
Sanders helped McNeese clinch the series with a 2-0 shutout win in the rubber game on Saturday with her second one-hitter of the series.  She struck nine in the game giving her a total of 19 strikeouts, one walk, a 0.45 ERA in 15.2 innings, and held Nicholls to a 0.60 batting average for the series.
