AUSTIN, Texas – McNeese track and field had a stellar day at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday with six individuals posting top 10 finishes with two of those capturing first place marks.
Blanche Beard won the women's javelin B section event with a new personal record throw of 164-5, a mark that also ranks as the second-longest in school history. She continues to top the Southland Conference in the event and moved to No. 7 on the NCAA East Qualifying list.
Also finishing with a championship was distance runner
Omer El-Fadl who scorched the track in the men's 1500m A section with a PR time of 3:46.98. That time is the fourth-fastest in McNeese history and jumps him to No. 1 in the SLC rankings and 10
th in the NCAA East Qualifying on the year.
Earlier in the day,
Morgan Talley completed her competition in the women's heptathlon where she finished in 10
th place with a new personal record point total of 5,187.
Cowgirl thrower
Mariah Lee added an eighth place finish in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 191-11 and Cowboys' hurdler
Jaden Powell clocked a PR in the men's 400m hurdles timed event at 53.25 which moved him to No. 2 in the conference rankings.
The Cowgirls had two runners finish in the top six in the 1500m B section –
Jeny Barcenas and
Ciara Gilroy. Both recorded a new PR in the event with Barcenas placing fourth with a time of 4:35.08 while Gilory finished in sixth place at 4:36.48.
The meet continues on Friday with several McNeese athletes in action including the men's and women's 4x100 and 4x400 relays as well as the sprint and distance medley relays,
Marcus Francis in the men's shot put B section,
Makayla Heath in the women's 100m timed final, Keon Beavers and
Samuel Gray in the men's 100m timed final.
