LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball, coming off its 30
th win of the season with a 4-2 win over Sam Houston on Wednesday, will remain home this weekend to host Houston Christian in a Southland Conference series beginning with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
McNeese (30-15, 14-1 SLC) has won 15 of its last 17 games and remains atop the league standings, one game ahead of Southeastern (36-8, 13-2 SLC). HCU will enter the series with a 17-21 overall record and are 4-11 in league play.
The Huskies have lost seven of their last nine games but picked up the SLC series win over Nicholls last weekend in Houston, winning the opening game 4-0, then secured the series win with a 5-1 game three win. HCU is coming off a 3-0 loss to Sam Houston on Tuesday.
The Cowgirls have five players batting over .300 with
Samantha Mundine leading the way with a .353 average.Â
Alexis Dibbley (.333),
Corine Poncho (.323),
Rylie Bouvier (.311), and
Crislyne Moreno (.306) are also above .300.
Shaelyn Sanders continues to lead the pitching staff with a 2.05 ERA, wins (14-7), innings pitched (136.2) and strikeouts (105) and is coming off her first save of the season against Sam Houston.
Lindsay Davis improved to 6-5 on the season with Wednesday's win, has a 2.47 ERA in 62.1 innings with 27 strikeouts. Ryan Schexnayder is 6-2 with a 2.85 ERA and Dibbley is 3-1 on the year with a 3.16 ERA.
