LAKE CHARLES— The 2024 Southland Conference softball regular season title will be on the line this weekend at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond when league leading McNeese hosts second place Southeastern during senior weekend.
 
The three-game series will begin with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday, May 3.  The series and regular season will end with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, May 4. 
 
Seniors Ashley Vallejo, Mariana Torres, Shaelyn Sanders, Chloe Gomez, and Emily Phillips will be recognized following Saturday's doubleheader.   
 
It has been a while for sure, and possibly the first time in conference history the top two teams in the league standings heading into the final conference series have ever played each other to determine the regular season champion.
 
McNeese (35-18, 19-2 SLC) enters the weekend needing one win to clinch the title while Southeastern (42-10, 17-4) SLC must win all three games.
 
The Cowgirls will attempt to become only the third team in conference history and the second team among current SLC schools to win three consecutive conference titles.  Northwestern State (1998-2000) and Texas State (2008-2010) are the other schools to win three straight SLC regular season titles.
 
The Lady Lions enter the series with the best team batting average (.354) and their pitching staff has the lowest ERA (1.49) in conference games. 
 
McNeese has the second lowest team ERA (1.55) and has the third best batting average (.310).  The teams rank 1-2 in stolen bases with Southeastern having stolen 69 bases and McNeese has stolen 54 in conference contest.
