SB: Cowgirls Begin SLC Tournament Action Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball, the 2024 regular season champions and the three-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champions will begin tournament action at 11 a.m. Wednesday.  The Cowgirls will play the winner of Tuesday's 3:30 p.m. game against No. 4 UIW or No. 5 Lamar.  The tournament will run through Friday with all games being streamed on ESPN+.
The tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, May 12 at 6 p.m. (CDT) on ESPN2.
McNeese (38-18) will serve as the tournament's No. 1 seed after winning its third straight regular season title last weekend.
The Cowgirls are making a conference high 34th appearance and have won six of the last seven conference tournaments.  McNeese has an overall 58-33 tournament record including a 19-2 tournament record under head coach James Landreneau.  The Cowgirls enter the tournament having won their last 10 tournament games.
The 2024 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year Shaelyn Sanders and Freshman of the Year Alexis Dibbley along with four other all-conference selections will lead the Cowgirls into the tournament.
Sanders finished the regular season with a 19-9 with a 1.68 ERA while Dibbley hit .326 with 45 hits, 12 doubles and 20 RBI.
McNeese enters the tournament with six players batting over .300 including Dibbley.  Samantha Mundine leads the team with a .327 average followed by Dibbley, Bella Perez (.309), Rylie Bouvier (.303), Corine Poncho (.303), and Emily Phillips.

•- Making its seventh SLC tournament appearance under head coach James Landreneau.
•- have a 19-2 overall conference tournament record and have won its last 10 consecutive tournament games under coach Landreneau.
