LUBBOCK, Texas – McNeese's track and field squads will be back in action on Friday and Saturday when they participate at the Texas Tech Jarvis Scott Indoor.
Events will get underway at 3 p.m. on Friday with the weight throw starting with the women and the men to follow. Running events will start at 5 p.m. with the women's 60m prelims.
The meet will broadcast on ESPN+ both days.
"We're excited to get back to action after a pretty good week at UAB," said head coach
Brendon Gilroy. "This is another week we look forward to improving as we get closer to the conference championship."
On Saturday, the men's and women's shot put will kick-off the day at 11 a.m. along with the women's 200m dash.
The team has combined to have 20 times and marks ranked in the top 10 in the Southland Conference rankings – 12 for the Cowboys and eight the Cowgirls.
The most dominant areas are in the throws where in the men's shot put,
Marcus Francis is ranked No. 1 by nearly four feet with a best throw of 58-0.5. He's second in the weight throw with a school-record mark of 62-8.5 while
Tyler Challis is ranked third at 60-1.75.
For the Cowgirls,
Ashari Jones is ranked third in the league in the shot put at 47-4.5 and
Jaslyn Russell is fourth at 47-0.5. Russell is fifth in the weight throw at 55-0.25 while
Ta'Khara Johnson is seventh with a throw of 54-1.75.
Cowboy jumper
Amire Ledet is ranked third in the triple jump at 49-4.25 and is looking to become the first Cowboy to top 50 feet in the indoor season since All-American John Lemke did it at the 2017 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
