BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The McNeese track and field squad will get a test run at the site of this year's Southland Conference Indoor Championships when it takes part in the UAB Vulcan Invite on Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Events will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's and women's shot put and women's pentathlon. Running events will start at noon with the 60-meter prelims.

"We like to make this trip as a dress rehearsal for the Southland Conference championships in a few weeks," said head coach Brendon Gilroy. "It's great for our jumpers to get a feel for the runway and for the throwers to get the speed of the ring. It will also be the first time this season on a banked track with the runners."

Entering Friday's meet, McNeese has 23 athletes ranked in the top 10 in the league in their respective events.

Cowboy thrower Marcus Francis, who is coming off a school record mark in the weight throw at last week's McNeese Indoor, is No. 2 in the league in that event with a mark of 62-8.5 and is ranked first in the shot put at 57-5.5. Right behind Francis in the weight event is Tyler Challis who is third with a throw of 60-1.75.
