Francis wins shot for 4th straight week at UAB Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The McNeese track and field team got an early feel for the surface where the Southland Conference Indoor Championships will take place, and came out of the UAB Vulcan Invite with another stellar performance by Cowboy thrower Marcus Francis.
 
The senior from Lake Charles won his fourth-straight shot put event in as many meets this indoor season, throwing 58-0.50. He also placed second in the weight throw at 60-8.50, breaking 60-feet for the third consecutive week.
 
"It was a great day for Marcus," said head coach Brendon Gilroy. "Overall, it was a decent day all around. We'll get back to work next week and get ready for Texas Tech."
 
Sprinter Amari Godette set two new personal records, the first in the 60m where he placed third with a time of 6.76. He then clocked 21.93 in the 200m for another PR. Ondray Miles also set a new PR in the event with a time of 22.21.
 
Nicholas Moron set a new PR in the 400m with a time of 50.01, and in the 800m, Colby Trahan clocked a new PR for the second straight week, this time with a mark of 1:57.77.
 
Amire Ledet had a second place finish in the triple jump at 49-3 and placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 21-11.
 
On the women's side, Grace Sullivan placed sixth in the 3000m with a PR time of 10:11.02. Freshman thrower Ta'Khara Johnson continues to put up impressive marks in the weight throw as she placed fourth with a throw of 53-1.
 
Bridget Trahan finished third in the pentathlon with 2892 points and Baylie Benton was fourth in the high jump at 5-4.25.
 
McNeese will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when it competes at the Texas Tech Indoor Invite.
