Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas-- McNeese softball split its games Saturday at the Tarleton State Texan Classic, ending its opening weekend with a 3-2 record.
McNeese ended tournament play with a 6-1 win over Bucknell, its second win over Bucknell in as many days.
The Cowgirls took and early 4-0 lead in the first inning on four hits and RBI's by
Samantha Mundine,
Rylie Bouvier, and
Delaney Dunham.
Bucknell scored its lone run in the third inning on a solo homerun by Bella Radican.
Two more runs by the Cowgirls in the fifth inning increased the lead to 6-1.
Jada Muñoz led the inning off with a solo homerun for a 5-1 lead. The homerun is Muñoz's first of the season. The other Cowgirl run came from Mundine's second RBI of the game. Mundine and
Alexis Dibbley both led McNeese with three hits apiece.
Ryann Schexnayder picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Freshman
Maddie Taylor was credited with her first collegiate save.
McNeese began the day with a 5-1 loss to Marist that saw the Cowgirls picking up only three hits including a double by Najah Fontenot. The Cowgirls used four pitchers in the game.
Kadence Williams was tabbed with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings.
After two scoreless innings, Marist used the next three innings to score all its runs, scoring two in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
McNeese scored it only run of the game in the seventh inning in a RBI single up the middle that scored
Samantha Mundine. Mundine reached base on a single to right field.
The Cowgirls will return home to host UT-Arlington next Thursday, Feb. 13 in its home opener. McNeese will also host the I-10 Border Classic Feb. 14-16. The tournament field will include nationally ranked Tennessee, Missouri State, Nicholls, and Tulsa.
