McNeese surges in 11Point7 Mid-Major Top 25

| By:
LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball leaped up 10 spots in the most recent edition of the 11Point7 Mid-Major Power Rankings to the 10th spot to lead all three Southland teams ranked.

McNeese has been ranked in four consecutive weeks in the poll and five on the season. The Pokes started in 25th on the seventh edition of the rankings, rising up one spot following a bye week, then to 20th by defeating New Orleans before today's Top 25 was unveiled.

The Cowboys swept UIW over the weekend to extend the nation's longest win streak to 12 games while setting a new program record. McNeese had twice reached 11-game win streaks in 1988 and 1989. Prior to the current streak, the longest under head coach Justin Hill's 12-year tenure was eight games which he reached thrice, including once earlier this season.

McNeese's 2025 squad broke the program record for the best start Friday night against UIW on the road with its 25th victory in 30 games. The team holds a 27-5 record on the season while sitting tied atop the SLC Standings with Southeastern and Houston Christian at 14-4 on the season.

The Lions sit at 15th in the poll at 28-7 while the Huskies enter the Top 25 for the first time this season with a 22-12 record.

For the second straight week, McNeese has received a vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll, one of 13 additional schools receiving votes. Last week the Cowboys also received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association with today's poll yet to be revealed.

Following the weekend, the Cowboys rose to 26th in RPI after having been in 28th on Thursday following the program's victory over Big 12 opponent Houston. They are leading the SLC who has five teams within the Top 100. The No. 26 spot is currently ranked above six SEC teams, 10 ACC squads, 10 Big 12 programs, and 16 Big 10 teams.

Through eight series in the 2025 campaign, seven have been clinched by the blue and gold with two of those series coming over Top 75 teams in the RPI rankings in Southeastern (63rd) and Lamar (69th).

McNeese is slated for a match up against eighth-ranked LSU Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Skip Bertman Field.
