SB: McNeese Hosts Southeastern In SLC Championship Series

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball, the 2025 Southland Conference regular season champs and the tournament's No. 1 seed will host the reigning Southland Conference Tournament champs and No. 2 seed Southeastern in the Championship Series presented by Toyota this weekend at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.  All games will stream on ESPN+.
 
The three-game series will get started at 6 p.m. Thursday with the second game scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.  An, if necessary, game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.  The series winner will represent the Southland in the NCAA Tournament.  The NCAA Tournament selection show will be at 6 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
 
McNeese (40-18), winners of the Lake Charles Bracket last weekend with wins over East Texas A&M and two wins over Incarnate Word, is making its league high 35th SLC Tournament and will look to win its 10th Southland Conference Tournament.
 
Southeastern (46-13), winners of the Hammond Bracket with wins over Houston Christian, Stephen F. Austin, and Nicholls last weekend to advance to the series championship.
 
The Cowgirls and Lady Lions are only two of seven Division I teams to win 40 or more games in each of the last four seasons (2022-25) with the Championship Series featuring the only two non-P4 teams.  Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, UCAL, and Florida State are the other teams to win 40 or more games in the last four seasons.
 
McNEESE TOURNAMENT NOTES
•- making a league high 35th Southland Conference Tournament appearances in 2025.
•- is hosting its fifth SLC Tournaments (2009, 2016, 2018, 2023, 2025)
•- has an overall 63-35 conference tournament record.
• McNeese is looking for its 10th overall SLC Tournament Title
•- Is 40-18 overall, fourth straight 40-win season.
•- McNeese is one of seven Division I teams that have won 40 or more games in each of the last four seasons (2022-25).
• Among the seven, the only two non-Power 4 teams on the list (McNeese & Southeastern) are playing each other in the 2025 SLC Championship Series. The other five are Oklahoma, Florida State, Texas, UCLA and Tennessee.
• McNeese has won six of the last eight Southland Conference Tournaments and four of the last five conference tournaments played (2020 Covid year- no tournament)
• Enters the Championship Series having won 18 of its last 21 games
•- The Cowgirls are 17-1 in their last 18 games.  Their loss was a 5-2 road loss at No. 10 LSU on April 22 that snapped its 11-game winning streak
• McNeese has won its last 13 SLC Tournament home games.
• Dating back to the 2023 SLC Tournament in Lake Charles, McNeese has won its last four tournament home games via walk-off
• The last SLC Tournament home loss was 2-1 to Texas State in the championship game in 2009 under head coach Natalie Poole.
• Are 24-3 at home this season, the three losses are to teams ranked in the Top 10 (twice to Tennessee, once to LSU)
