FRISCO, Texas-- McNeese freshman
Salome Fluri added another postseason honor to her list this season by being named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year, the league announced its all-academic team Monday. Fluri is the first McNeese women's tennis player in program history to earn the honor.
Nominees for Student-Athlete of the Year must have earned at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.25 cumulative GPA to be nominated for the all-academic team. The athlete must have athletics achievement for at least one semester of athletics competition, including the current season.
Salome is one of four Cowgirls named to the all-academic team. Joining Fluri on the first team was the SLC Newcomer of the year in sophomore
Ana Hollweg and freshmen
Elena Morales and
Stella Rundova.
The SLC Player and Freshman of the Year posted a 3.68 GPA in Psychology, a 22-2 overall record and was undefeated at 9-0 in conference matches. The first team all-SLC pick at No. 1 singles, ended her rookie season on a 19-match winning streak.
Hollweg, a Business major who posted a 3.43 GPA, a 16-8 overall singles record and 6-3 in SLC matches as the Cowgirls No. 3 singles player. Her 16 singles wins are the second most wins on the team. She finished the season with a 17-9 doubles record with 12 of her doubles wins coming as part of the No. 3 doubles team. Hollweg was named to the All-SLC first team in doubles and second team in singles.
Morales, also a Business major posted a 3.33 GPA, a 15-4 overall singles record at No. 5, was 5-1 in conference matches, 14-6 overall and 6-2 in doubles. Morales was an All-SLC first team pick in both singles and doubles.
Rundova, a Psychology major posted a 3.88 GPA, had a 12-1 overall singles record and was also undefeated in the SLC with a 7-0 record. She had a 16-9 doubles record and was named to the All-SLC first team as the No. 5 singles player.
