McNeese hosts Southern, LC in mid-week baseball action

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball will continue its 10-game home stand with two mid-week games, starting Tuesday night against Southern then a Wednesday night matchup against Louisiana Christian.
 
Both games will carry a 6 p.m. first pitch while Tuesday's game will broadcast on ESPN+. Southern will enter the game with a 7-15 record while LC is 26-6 overall and ranked 15th in the latest NAIA Division I Top 25 poll.
 
McNeese (12-11) is coming off a Southland Conference weekend series win over Southeastern that saw the Cowboys put up 24 runs and 33 hits in the three games, including seven doubles and five home runs.
 
The Cowboys will enter the week hitting .257 as a team and led by Danny Barbero's .389 average, which is second in the Southland Conference and ranked in the top 100 in the NCAA. Barbero also leads the team with five home runs and 26 runs batted in. Matt Stancliff follows with a .341 mark while Hayden Stringfellow is batting .310.
 
Tuesday's game against Southern will be the second matchup of the season with the Jaguars. The Cowboys won 14-5 back on March 3 in Baton Rouge.
 
Following the mid-week action, the Cowboys will step out of conference play this weekend when they host Abilene Christian for a three-game series.
 
Taking a look at the conference, Northwestern State, UTRGV, and Lamar are all tied atop the standings at 8-4. Southeastern and Stephen F. Austin are 5-4 while McNeese is 6-6. Nicholls follows at 5-6 then HCU (4-5), UIW (5-7), New Orleans (4-8), and A&M-Corpus Christi (1-7).
