FRISCO, Texas - McNeese cross country runners Greg Martin and
Uxue Castro-Martin have been named this week's Southland Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week for their performance at last Friday's LSU Twilight Cross Country Relay, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Greg Martin led the Cowboys to a team win at the meet after running a 4k time of 12:16.3, three seconds faster than his paired teammate of
Ryan McCarthy as the duo were two of McNeese squads to finish in the top five spots.

The Cowboys collected 15 points to garner the team win followed by LSU with 73 points, Nicholls with 73, Southern 88, and Dillard with 139 points.

Castro-Martin was the fastest Cowgirl to lead her team, finishing with a time of 9:51.2 in the 3k leg and as the fourth-fastest individual in the field, only behind three LSU runners.

The Cowgirls placed second as a team with 51 points behind LSU who had 17 and in front of Nicholls with 66.

The Cowboys are currently ranked 13th in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches South Central Region poll, up two spots from the previous ranking.

Both teams will return to competition on Saturday when McNeese hosts the Cowboy Stampede at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex. The women will run a 5k beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the men will follow at 9 a.m. with a 4-mile run.

Teams joining McNeese in the field includes UIW men and women, ULL men and women, Northwestern State men and women, Southern men and women, Community Christian College men, and Lyon College men.
