LAKE CHARLES - McNeese Cowgirl junior runner Uxue Castro-Martin captured her first career collegiate individual cross country win here Saturday at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede, clocking a 16:35.0 in the 5k race, winning by eight seconds.
 
The Cowgirls finished third in the team scoring with 63 points. ULL won the team title with 26 points followed by UIW at 44. Northwestern State was fourth with 121 then Southern with 141.
 
The Cowboys won the men's team title with 30 points led by a second-place individual finish from Greg Martin who clocked an 18:54.0 in the four-mile race. UIW was second with 34 points, ULL with 77, Northwestern State 125 and Southern 133.
 
Rylee Kai Challenor was the only other Cowgirl to place in the top 10, finishing seventh with a time of 17:26.5.
 
For the Cowboys, five other runners joined Martin to place in the top 10. Ryan McCarthy finished fifth at 19:08.7, Diarmuid Moloney sixth at 19:09.9, Nathan Salinas eighth at 19:20.1, Samuel Serrano Borrego ninth at 19:21.0, and Ethan Gioko 10th at 19:25.0.
 
The squads will close out the regular season on October 16 when running at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational. McNeese will host the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30 at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.
