FRISCO, Texas—McNeese State junior
Klaudia Gawlik and sophomore Julie Kral have been named to the Southland Conference Women's Tennis all-academic team as released by the league office Wednesday.
Both players were named to the first team and its Gawlik's second time to be named to the team. She was also a first team selection in 2014.
Gawlik, the native of Nowy Sacz, Poland has a cumulative 3.49 GPA in Civil Engineering. She earned all-Southland Conference honors for the third consecutive season after finishing 11-5 overall and 6-3 in conference action. Gawlik won five of her last nine matches of the season to become just the eighth Cowgirl in program history to obtain 50 career singles victories.
Kral, a native of Tueblitz, Germany, is one of five players to post a perfect 4.0 GPA. The General Business Administration major is a two-time all-conference selection after being named to the first team this season with a team-best 14-4 overall record and a 7-3 mark in conference play. Kral won eight of her last 10 matches and produced a seven match-winning streak during the season.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member institutions, voted for the student-athlete of the year. The Southland student-athlete of the year is presented to the one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
