LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese volleyball will look end the week on a winning note when the Cowgirls travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on Incarnate Word in an 11 a.m. match Saturday. This will be the first and only match between the two teams this season.
McNeese (9-19, 5-8 SLC) is still holding onto the eighth spot in the league standings despite its 3-0 loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday night. After Saturday's match, the Cowgirls will conclude the regular season with road matches at Nicholls and Abilene Christian next Thursday and Saturday.
The Cowgirls have four players with over 200 kills apiece and are led by junior middle blocker
Jenny D'Alessandro. D'Alessandro has 214 kills on the season along with junior
Rae Myers who has 210 and freshmen
Keegan Nelms and Katelyn Elliot have 204 and 202, respectively. D'Alessandro also leads McNeese with 74 blocks. Nelms has a team best 16 service aces while Myers,
Alexandra Aguilera and
Bridget Justis all have 15. Justis leads the conference with 5.08 digs in league play and as a team McNeese ranks second with 17.06 in conference matches.
Incarnate Word (10-16, 6-7 SLC) is ineligible for postseason play but could play a big part in other teams' hopes in making the SLC Tournament. The Cardinals snapped a three match-losing streak with a 3-1 home win over Nicholls on Thursday.
As a team, UIW ranks fourth in the SLC with a .196 hitting percent, fourth in service aces (131), and fifth in blocks (206). Autumn Lockley leads the Cardinals and ranks third in the conference with 336 kills. Madison Williams leads the team in assists (579) and service aces (31).
