LAFAYETTE – The McNeese Cowboy golf team will return to action on Monday when it opens play at the 34
th Annual Louisiana Classics hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and played at the Oakbourne Country Club.
Play on the par-72, 6,866-yard course will begin on Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 8 a.m., with the final 18 holes being played on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. A free, live video stream from Hole No. 9 will be available on RaginCajuns.com, with live results available on GolfStat.com.
McNeese will join some of the top teams in the country in the field of 15, which includes No. 29-ranked Illinois, No. 61 Kent State, No. 65 North Texas, and No. 77 UTSA. Others in the field include host team ULL, Louisiana Tech, UMKC, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Texas State, Toledo and Wichita State.
Leading the Cowboys into the tourney will be senior
Blake Elliott who has seen his national ranking rise to No. 35 in the NCAA according to Golfstat.
Elliott is averaging 70.19 strokes per round for the entire season and 69.8 in five rounds played this spring. And in both tournaments, he tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Elliott will be joined in the lineup by
Jack Hearn (75.0),
Sutton Farmer (74.9), Nick Mattner (76.3) and
Reid Giardina (76.8).
The Cowboys will be paired up with golfers from Texas State, Southern Miss and Rice.
