LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball head coach
James Landreneau has announced the hiring of former All-American Shellie Landry to his staff. Landry will coach the outfielders and catchers as well as assists with hitting.
"Today is a great day for McNeese softball," said head coach
James Landreneau. "We are excited Shellie will be joining our staff. During the interview process it was clear that she possesses a high softball IQ and has one of the most competitive personalities I've been around. She brings the same work ethic to coaching that helped her become an All-American as a student-athlete."
The native of Broussard, Louisiana, Landry played collegiately at UL-Lafayette from 2013-2016 where reached 50 hits, 50 RBI and double-digit home runs in three of her four seasons. She earned several accolades including NFCA All-American honors in 2016. Landry was also a two-time NFCA All-Region selection, four-time All-Sun Belt and three-time All-Louisiana.
In the classroom, Landry has just as much success as on the field where she was named the UL-Lafayette Student-Athlete of the Year Silver Medalist in 2016 along with being named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Following her athletic career, Landry served as a graduate assistant and interim head coach at UL-Lafayette and most recently was a volunteer coach at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
