BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – McNeese track and field will get an early preview of the facility that will be used for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships when on Friday, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will run in the Samford Bulldog Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
The league meet will be run at the same CrossPlex facility March 1-2.
 
Both teams will field a full squad in the events that get underway at 8 a.m. with the women's weight throw event that will feature Cowgirl standout Alanna Arvie, the reigning conference women's field athlete of the week. Arvie will enter the meet ranked No. 1 in the league and 25^th nationally in the weight throw with a best mark of 66-10.75. She'll also compete in the shot put later in the day, ranked No. 3 in the conference with a throw of 48-1.25.
 
Other high-ranking Cowgirls entered in the meet include Tia Andrews, tied for first in the 60-meter dash (7.52), Brentney Carroll No. 2 in the 60-meter hurdles (8.79), Heaven Terrell No. 3 in the long jump (18-8), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Malaiya Jedkins, Victoria Pierson, Dreunna Washington and Shania Anthony who rank third with a time of 3:46.88, a school record mark they posted last week at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational.
 
On the men's side, hurdler Darion Dunn to run in the 60-meter hurdles and will compete in the long jump. Dunn is the only Cowboy ranked in the top 75 in the country, holding down a No. 55 ranking (third in the SLC) with a time of 7.94.
 
Kobe Nevills will look to move up from his No. 10 ranking in the 400-meters (48.49) while thrower Garrett Dietert seeks to improve on his No. 5 ranking in the shot put at 47-9.25.
