LAKE CHARLES – Coming off another historic season in 2019 where the McNeese Cowgirl soccer team set a new school record with seven-straight double-digit win seasons are set to hit the pitch in 2020.
The Cowgirls will open the season on Aug. 13 at home in an exhibition game against Louisiana-Lafayette then will play its first two regular season games at Cowgirl Field against Texas State (Aug. 21) and Houston (Aug. 23).
"We are excited about our schedule this season," said Head Coach
Drew Fitzgerald. "It's an extremely challenging non-conference schedule that should prepare us for conference play."
The Cowgirls will also host Southern (Sept. 11) and ULM (Sept. 13) in non-conference action while visiting Tulsa for a tournament (Aug. 28-30) before opening Southland Conference play at home against Nicholls on Sept. 18.
"We have great balance in the schedule with 10 home matches and 10 away matches," said Fitzgerald. "Six of our eleven conference matches are at home so there are plenty of meaningful games being played at Cowgirl Field."
In addition to the home contest against Nicholls, the Cowgirls' other home league games will come against Houston Baptist (Oct. 2), Corpus Christi (Oct. 4), Central Arkansas (Oct. 16), Northwestern State (Oct. 18), and Lamar (Oct. 30) to finish out the regular season.
The Southland Conference Tournament will take place Nov. 6-8.
