COLLEGE STATION – McNeese's
Grace McKenzie and
Alanna Arvie continue to etch their names as two of the greats in Cowgirl track and field history when over the weekend, the two broke their own school records in their respective events at the Texas A&M Team Invitational
McKenzie broke two of her own records, those coming in the 400-meter hurdles where she posted a time of 59.72 for a third place finish, bettering her old mark of 59.97 that was set in 2019. She shattered her long jump record of 20-4.5 that she set a month ago, jumping 20-10 for a sixth place finish over the weekend.
Arvie got into the record-breaking phase as well as she destroyed her previous hammer throw record of 198-1 that was set two weeks ago with a 204-9 mark for a third place finish. That mark also ranks as the fifth-longest in Southland Conference history.
In addition to those record-breaking performances, McNeese athletes recorded 11 personal bests and Cowboy javelin thrower
Donavon Banks picked up another first place in his event with a throw of 235-3.
Other top five finishes saw Cowboy javelin thrower
Hunter Longino placing third with a personal best mark of 210-1. In the women's javelin event,
Blanche Beard finished third with a throw of 140-11 while Arvie placed fourth with a 128-3 throw.
Jemira Thomlinson finished fourth in the women's discus with a PR throw of 160-7 and McKenzie was fifth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:14.05. Arvie finished fifth in the shot put at 48-3.25.
Other Cowboys to post a top five finish included Olu Ogunyemi in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a third place finish at 14.77 while
Gideon Cheplak placed fifth in the 1500-meters at 3:54.21.
