EL DORADO, Ark.—McNeese women's golf team had a tough outing in the opening round of the 2021 Southland Conference Championship Monday ending the day with a 338, placing the Cowgirls in 7
th place of the 8-team tournament.
The tournament runs through Wednesday, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. each day.
Sam Houston is the overall team leader with a 304, four shots ahead of second place Central Arkansas and Houston Baptist who both ended the day with 307's. Incarnate Word is in 4
th place (319) followed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (327) then Lamar (329) followed by the Cowgirls. Stephen F. Austin sits in the final spot with a 360.
Riley Isaac shot the low round of the day for the Cowgirls with an 81, tying her for 20
th place.
Anika Hovda is in 24
th place after a round of 84.
Carolina Rotzinger is tied for 26
th place with an 86,
Maria Garcia is tied for 28 with an 87, and Amy Ng is in 31
st place with an 88.
Isaac opened the tournament by picking up birdies in two of the first three holes but gave those shots back plus two more with a double bogey on the 8
th hole. She ended her day by paring six of the back nine holes.
Sam Houston's Jennifer Herbst is the individual leader after a first round of one under par 71. After a three-over par front nine, Herbst came in with a four under par on the back nine. She picked up birdies on holes 10, 11, 14, and 18 and pared the other five holes.
