LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will conclude its regular season this week with a 4 p.m. match Thursday against Southeastern before its regular season finale against Lamar at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Thursday's match will serve as Military Appreciation Day while Saturday's match is Senior Day.
A lot will be at stake for McNeese (16-14, 12-4 SLC) this week. Not only will the Cowgirls be playing for tournament seeding in next week's Southland Conference Tournament, but the Cowgirls control their own destiny as it pertains to the regular season title.
McNeese heads into its final two matches as co-leaders with Houston Christian and with wins over Southeastern and Lamar, the Cowgirls are assured no less than co-champions.
First things first and it's a match against the Lions (21-7, 11-5 SLC) who sit in a third-place tie with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, one match out of first place.
The Cowgirls will look to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Lions in Hammond on Sept. 27 where the Cowgirls picked up the opening set by a 28-26 score before falling 22-25, 23-25, and 18-25 in the next three.
Since that loss in Hammond, McNeese has won 11 of its last 13 matches including putting together its longest winning streak of seven matches from Oct. 13- Nov. 1.
Southeastern has also been on a run lately and will enter the match having won six of their last seven matches including a home win over Texas A&M-Commerce last Saturday.
For the Cowgirls, it's been a team effort to get where they are, and several different players have stepped up at different times.
