Jalon White named SLC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Fresh off another record-breaking performance in the 400-meters, McNeese sprinter Jalon White has been selected this week's Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week the league announced on Wednesday.
 
The weekly awards are presented by GEICO.
 
White improved on his owns school record in the 400-meters by running a 46.93 to capture first place at the Samford Bulldog Open. The time also set a new meet record and improved on his first-place ranking in the conference standings as well as moving up to No. 46 nationally.
 
He clocked a personal best in the 200-meters in the same meet, finishing in third place with a time of 21.31 and moving up the ranks to No. 3 in the Southland.
 
Three other McNeese athletes were recognized as honorable mention selections.
 
Freshman Cowboy thrower Marcus Francis posted a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 50-0.75 for a sixth-place finish.
 
On the women's side, Dreunna Washington posted a PR in the 200-meters with a time of 24.57 to finish fifth, clocked a 7.67 for a fifth-place finish in the 60-meters and ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a season-best 3:50.19 for a second-place finish.
 
Janell Fullerton placed first in the shot put with a throw of 48-0. It's her third shot put win in four meets on the season.
 
White will be back in action on Friday when he competes at the Texas Tech Jarvis Scott Open in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships. His current time of 46.93 is about half a second from the qualifying mark.
 
The rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls will next be in action Feb. 27-28 at the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
