2022 SLC Indoor All-Conference

Gilroy, Warner garner superlative honors for SLC Indoor

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese track and field head coach Brendon Gilroy has been named the 2022 Southland Conference Women's Indoor Coach of the Year while runner Kayla Warner was selected Women's Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Monday in conjunction with the release of the All-Southland Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Teams.

Gilroy garnered his first indoor coach of the year honor following the Cowgirls' claiming their first-ever indoor title last week in Birmingham. The Cowgirls won a total of eight medals overall and accumulated 156 points.

Warner, a freshman from Houston, placed second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:12.67 and ran a leg in the 4x400-meter relay team which won a gold medal. She clocked a time of 57.59 in the 4x400 running the second leg. She was also on the distance medley relay team that finished in fourth place.

Combined, a total of 27 Cowboys and Cowgirls earned all-conference honors – 12 for the Cowboys (including four on the relay) and 15 for the Cowgirls (relays included).

First team honors for the Cowboys (gold medal winners) were members of the 4x400 relay team that set a school record with a time of 3:12.80. Those team members included Richard Lee, Terrill Banks, Ondray Miles and Jalon White. Awarded second team honors were Ronnie Jackson (60m hurdles), White (400m), and Joey Croft (mile) while third team honors went to Evans Kemboi (mile and 3000m), Patrick Boudreaux (high jump), Jackson (triple jump) and Marcus Francis (shot put).

First team accolades for the Cowgirls saw members of the 4x400 relay team pick up a gold medal (Malaiya Jedkins, Kayla Warner, Dreunna Washington and Shania Anthony), Sakari Famous with a school record in the high jump, Washington in the long jump, and Jedkins with a school record in the triple jump. Second team awards went to Warner in the 800m, Pamela Kosgei (5000m), Maja Gebauer (pole vault), Janell Fullerton (shot put), and Morgan Talley in the pentathlon.
