SOC: Cowgirls Picked 2nd In SLC Preseason Poll

| By:
FRISCO, Texas—McNeese women's soccer is picked to finish second in the 2022 Southland Conference Preseason Poll, the league announced Thursday.

"It's always nice to be selected to finish high in the rankings, and I think it's a reflection of the respect last year's team earned," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "The work is just getting started for this year's team and we know that it is a totally different league than a year ago."

McNeese is coming off a 13-5-2 overall record in 2021, tying the program record for wins and finished second in the league standings with a 9-2-1 record.

Northwestern State, the 2021 regular season and SLC Tournament champs are the favorites to repeat again this season.

McNeese picked up one first place vote (coaches not allowed to vote for their team) and 113 total points.

The Lady Demons picked up 16 first place votes and 128 points while Incarnate Word also picked up one first place vote.

McNeese opens its season next Friday, Aug. 19 by hosting Sam Houston.
