Mariah Lee named SLC AOW for second time in three weeks

FRISCO, Texas – For the third week in a row, a McNeese Cowgirl track and field athlete has been recognized by the Southland Conference as Athlete of the Week when thrower Mariah Lee was voted as the league's women's field athlete of the week for her performance at the McNeese Indoor Meet on Friday.

Lee, who earns the award for the second time this indoor season, took first place in the weight throw event after setting a new personal record mark of 58-2 (17.73 meters). The mark ranks her No. 1 in the Southland Conference and eighth in the NCAA South Central Region.

The victory in the event was her second win in three meets on the season.

Lee, a redshirt junior from Corsicana, Texas, won the award in week one of the season while teammate Morgan Talley picked up the award last week for her performance in the pentathlon at the Samford Multis and Invitational.

Lamar runner Yasmin Austridge was named the SLC women's track athlete of the week.

The McNeese team will be off this weekend but will return to action Feb. 10-11 at Vanderbilt.
