Hunter Longino and middle-distance runner
Omer El-Fadl won gold medals in their respective events during Saturday's final day of the 2023 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Longino won the javelin event with a throw of 214-0 while fellow thrower
Darren Taylor joined him on the medal stand with a silver medal after a personal best throw of 201-04. In addition, Trey Marsh finished fifth in the event and scored four points following a season-best mark of 185-06 while
Tyler Challis collected a point with an eighth-place finish on PR throw of 164-04.
The four combined to score 23 points in the event and helped lead the Cowboys to their second-straight top five finish in the team standings as they placed fifth with 89 points.
El-Fadl scored 16 points alone for the team after he won the title in the 1500-meters with a time of 3:57.20 and placed third in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.51.
The Cowboys' 4x400-meter relay team clocked the fourth-fastest time in school history and won a bronze medal in the process after timing out at 3:11.44. That team included
Jaden Powell,
Samuel Gray,
Jalon White and
Ondray Miles.
The Cowgirl finished in sixth place with 76 points. One Cowgirl reached the medal stand on the day, that being
Reese Grossie in the discus where she won a gold medal after throwing a season-best 155-05.
Chloe Hernandez finished fourth in the event to pick up five points with her personal best mark of 152-03.
Incarnate Word won the men's team title with 142 points while Lamar captured the women's team championship with 155 points.
