LAKE CHARLES –
Sakari Famous broke her own school women's high jump record and 34-year-old Ralph O. Ward Rec. Complex mark and
Tyler Challis toppled and 11-year-old men's weight throw record on the second and final day of the McNeese Indoor II Track & Field meet here Friday.
The performances highlighted a day that saw 15 McNeese personal records broken along with 17 first place finishes among the Cowboys and Cowgirls in addition to two more McNeese athletes winning while competing as unattached.
Challis won the men's weight throw with his toss of 60-5 coming on his second attempt out of six. That broke the old mark of 58-8.75 that was set by Thomas Canchola in January of 2013.
Famous, who broke the school record while winning a gold medal at the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Championships, matched that mark of 5-10.75 at this year's season opener at the LSU Purple Tiger two weeks ago. Her clearing of 5-11.25 on Friday ranks tied as the 5
th-best mark in Southland Conference history and 21
st best in the nation this season.
