LAKE CHARLES, La. -  McNeese's men and women's track and field programs prepare for the 41st Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice over the course of two days, taking place Friday and Saturday, March 22-23.
 
The Pokes have tabbed two meets under their belts with the Cowboy Relays and Louisiana Classic as they continue to work upon improvement and see more athletes in action this weekend.

Junior Marcus Francis was named the men's SLC Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday afternoon after winning in the shot put over the weekend with a 17.50m mark to put him atop the conference by a wide margin. He further threw a personal best 48.62m in the discuss for fourth and finished eighth in the hammer throw.

Sakari Famous, a redshirt senior, won the women's SLC Field Athlete of the Week after leaping 1.80m in the high jump, posting the second-best mark in the nation in the event. She is just 0.04m shy of her personal best and 0.05m behind the nation's leader.

The meet is slated to kick off at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning and 11 a.m. on Saturday
