AUSTIN, Texas – McNeese Cowgirl multi-event athlete
Morgan Talley ended the first day of the women's heptathlon at the Clyde Littlefield Relays in 10
th place with 3,114 points scored through four events and well within reach of a top three finish.
Talley, competing in her final outdoor season as a Cowgirl, opened up competition with a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles and a time of 14.10. She followed that faulting in the high jump but then threw a personal best in the shot put at 38-6.75 for a ninth-place finish in that event.
She ended the day clocking a 25.03 in the 200 meters and setting another personal record.
On Thursday, Talley will start the day off in one of her specialties, the long jump followed by the javelin throw and the 800-meter run.
Jenell Rogers of Louisville tops the list with 3,633 points followed by Kentucky's Charity Hufnagel and Pitt's Lydia Bottelier each with 3,386 points.
Also on Thursday, reigning SLC field athlete of the week
Blanche Beard will throw in the javelin B section starting at 1:15.
Later in the day, Cowboys' hurdler
Jaden Powell will compete in the 400m hurdles at 5:10 followed by the women's 1500m with
Ciara Gilroy and
Jeny Barcenas competing at 7:25 p.m.
Omer El-Fadl will run in the men's 1500m Section A at 7:45 p.m.,
Marta Pascoa in the women's 3000m steeplechase at 8:15,
Rolando Ortiz the men's 5000m at 9:05, and
Gilbert Kimutai in the men's 10,000m at 10:05 p.m.
