LAKE CHARLES – McNeese first team All-Southland Conference center fielder
Conner Westenburg was one of four Cowboys selected to the 2025 SLC All-Academic Baseball Team released by the league office on Friday.
Westenburg was named to the first team and was an automatic selection while pitchers
Alexis Gravel and
Eric Nachtsheim, along with third baseman
Davis Meche, were voted onto the second team.
Westenburg, who was also named to the All-Defensive Team, hit .332 on the year to go along with seven home runs, 33 RBIs, nine doubles, and ranked second in the NCAA with nine triples hit. He also led the league with 27 stolen bases and set a school record with three lead-off home runs to start a game this season. He compiled a 3.87 GPA in general studies. He's a senior from Porter, Texas
Gravel posted a 4-3 record on the year with a 3.45 ERA. He appeared in 12 games making 10 starts and threw 47 innings, striking out 67 batters. He earned All-SLC postseason second team honors and compiled a 3.64 GPA in general studies. He's a senior from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.
Nachtsheim posted a 2-0 record and a 3.32 ERA on the season while appearing in 19 games. He also recorded one save and threw 21.2 innings, striking out 21 batters in the process. He compiled a 4.0 GPA in chemistry. He's a junior from Reno, Nevada.
Meche hit .276 on the year with 10 doubles, two triples and 12 RBIs while playing in 44 games and making 36 starts. The graduate student from Lake Charles compiled a 4.0 GPA while working on his master's in business administration.
The All-Academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.25 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season, excluding pitchers.
