LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's soccer team will get its first taste of life on the road over the weekend when it travels to San Marcos, Texas for a Friday night tilt against Texas State slated to kick off at 7 p.m.

The Cowgirls (2-0) started the season on a high note with victories in their first two matches. It was the first time in almost a decade that a McNeese soccer team would start the season with a 2-0 record. The last occurrence was in 2006 when the Cowgirls wound up capturing the SLC Tournament title.
McNeese scored a comeback victory over ULM over the weekend before dominating Prairie View A&M, 5-0, in its home opener. Offensively, sophomore
Gabi D'Alesandro's two goals and assist led the Cowgirls while her game-winning goal helped propel the squad over the Warhawks in the season opener. Junior newcomer
Bettina Brulhart also netted two goals while senior goalkeeper
Lauren Sestak was named Player of the Week for her performance in-between the posts.
Texas State (1-0) comes into Friday night's matchup after completing a shutout against the University of Houston. 2-0, in addition to defeating UTSA in an exhibition contest the week before. The Bobcats return 18 letterman and seven starters from a 2014 squad that completed the season 11-7-2 overall along with a third place finish in Sun Belt action.
Individually, Lynsey Curry leads Texas State with a goal and an assist that was recorded in the Houston match. Curry attempted a team-high seven shots with three on target. Lauren Prater netted the game-winner against the Cougars. Defensively, Caitlynn Rinehart was solid in goal for the Bobcats. She played all 90 minutes and made three saves on seven shots faced to complete the shutout.
Texas State leads the all-time series against McNeese State 16-6-1, but the two teams will meet for just the second time since the departure of the Bobcats to the Sun Belt after leaving the Southland Conference. The Cowgirls captured a double overtime victory against Texas State in 2013 with a 2-1 win in Lake Charles.
Following their contest on Friday, the Cowgirls will make the trip up to Oklahoma for a Sunday afternoon match with Tulsa at 2 o'clock.
