Box Score JACKSON- The McNeese Cowgirls snapped their three-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 victory against the Jackson State Tigers.
Although the Cowgirls started slow on the score board, they lead the Tigers in all statistical categories in the game, having 18 shots with 13 of them being on goal to Jackson State's five shots with none being on goal.
The Cowgirls also earned seven corner kicks while not allowing any to Jackson State.
The Cowgirls had to play without all-conference star Havana Johnson half of the first half and all of the second half after she was given a red card and automatic ejection in the 23rd minute of the first half.
"I thought we did a poor job in the first half and then when things went a little sideways in the second half, it was like a wake-up call," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "From the time of the red card until the final whistle I enjoyed watching us play."
The Cowgirls might have started slowly, but they exploded offensively in the second half.
Wasting no time, they scored their first goal just seven minutes into the half off a penalty kick by Rachel Palet for her second goal of the year.
After the penalty kick, McNeese would go on to score three more goals in the next 15 minutes by Nola Prickett, Alexis Miller, and Morgan Middleton and took a commanding 4-0 lead.
Prickett and Middleton's goals were unassisted, while Miller's was scored off a corner kick.
McNeese wasn't quite done. The Cowgirls found the back of the net twice more in the 80th and 81st minute from Mariah Ruelas and Maddie Neidig, both scoring their second goals of their young careers.
"It was great to see us respond to such adversity," said Fitzgerald.
The Cowgirls will be back at home on September 21 to defend their undefeated record at Cowgirl Field when they take on Northwestern State at 7 p.m.
